Our Story

Vintage textiles and homeware reinterpreted for the modern home.

Edinburgh + London

510 Laundry are mother & son duo Sue & Ed Simpson. Through a mutual appreciation for vintage textiles and creative techniques they naturally came to work together.

Ed is based in Hackney, London, with a background as an artist and homeware buyer. Sue lives in Portobello, Edinburgh, an experienced quilter, patchworker and crafter with a background in languages and archiving. This dialogue between locations, and the merging of their talents and interests, has created the 510 Laundry approach to design and production.

Our sourcing takes place around the UK, while hand dyeing is carried out in Edinburgh. The perfect excuse to get together!

Each piece we source is vintage and unique, lovingly handcrafted and used over time.

510 Laundry aim to bring these items back into use, adapting them to suit a contemporary lifestyle.

We sensitively restore and reinterpret each piece while respecting their individual stories.

Our goal is for every piece to be as sustainably produced as possible, using only reclaimed materials and natural dyes.

Only natural dyes are used including Indigo, Turmeric, Weld and Madder. Any embellishment added to a piece, such as beads, has been reclaimed. Our vintage textiles are made from 100% natural fibres including cotton, linen and silk.

A pink French knot embellishes every item, referring to the laundry marks used by households to identify their linens when sent for cleaning. The ‘510’ in our name comes from the first example of this in our collection.

Each item is packaged in a translucent envelope with care card. Perfect for gifting!
